Local resident Rose Marie Spingler said she attended the event because she loves jazz music.

"I just heard that there was jazz, and I wanted to go," she said.

She was not disappointed, she added.

"He really could play," said Spingler, who described herself as "a senior citizen."

Birnbaum was invited to perform as part of One Book New Jersey, a statewide program sponsored by the New Jersey Library Association and the New Jersey Library. The program
